STUDY: 90% of Auditioning Is Just Lurking Outside Studios With 8 Bags

After conducting a nationwide study to determine how actors are spending their hours, The Center for Auditioning Actors (not to be confused with premiere talent agency CAA) determined that 90 percent of auditioning is just "lurking outside of studios with eight bags."

This was a marked change from even ten years ago when most of the time was spent on the subway with a single purse. "We think this has something to do with actors not trusting the subways to get them from point A to point B,” posited Brinda Grimes, one of the chief authors of the study, “Instead of going home, actors would rather carry everything they own from work to auditions and back. Additionally, since it's too pricey to get a coffee before every audition."

Frequent auditioner Keshia Thomas acknowledged her own contribution to this phenomenon, saying “I need to be prepared to go in for any role at any time. That’s why I always carry my LaDucas, a crop top, all my instruments, office supplies, space ice cream, a hoop skirt and a fun hat at all times. It’s really not that much stuff when you figure out how to pack your bags right.”

And how is the the other 10% of time spent? The study’s findings vary from state to state but answers included screaming into a belt box, reapplying deodorant and emotionally prepping into a corner.
