AD Knows Hair is Relevant, Not Exactly Sure Why

Citing the “cultural implications” and “our present moment,” Assistant Director Kari Helligan wrote a lengthy and incredibly vague facebook post about the cultural relevance of Sprigg Lake Regional Theater’s upcoming production of “Hair.”

Despite the complete lack of real-world evidence to support her claims, Helligan was insistent that the 1967 musical has “much to teach us” about the current state of affairs. “In a very real way,” she wrote on Tuesday, “this is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius.” The facebook post garnered almost 20 likes, and a single share from Helligan’s Aunt Nancy, who apparently thought the post was a New York Times write up of her niece's show.

Cast reaction to the post was overwhelmingly positive. George Broward, who stars as Claude, was particularly moved by the post, saying “Kari is an amazing director who really gets the source material. I’m still not sure why we take our clothes off at the end of Act I, but she tried really hard to explain it to me, so I’m sure it’s justified and means a lot.”

Additionally, several actors in the Sprigg Lake Production took great offense to the news of the NBC live's upcoming version of the 60's musical, which they fear will be watered down. "I'm not really sure what the statment is without the nudity. I don't think there is one," concluded actor singer Charlotte Maier in a blog post. "This is gonna be JUST like when my highschool did Rent."

For her part, Helligan looks forward to her next timely project: a new revival of Pirates of Penzance, in which she hopes to shed light on the issue of Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
