Sparky’s Second Act: Once On This Island Goat to Star as New Phantom

In a groundbreaking casting move, Tresley + Co Casting announced Friday that Sparky, the beloved goat who stars in Once On This Island, will be trotting down to the Majestic Theater to be the next Phantom of the Opera! He will replace Broadway veteran and certified hunk Ben Crawford, who leaves the cast after a successful letter-writing campaign to replace him with the goat. His team did not return a request for comment.

After Sparky’s runaway success in his Broadway debut, fans and industry-watchers wondered what was next for the triple threat. According to Sparky’s press rep, the iconic Phantom has long been dream role for him. In a statement released Friday, Sparky said, “Ever since I was a kid, the Music of the Night captured my imagination and my heart. I am baaah-lessed to join this phenomenal cast”

For Sparky’s team, they know it will be all hooves on deck to get him ready for this challenging role. He’s been working closely with a personal trainer to learn how to row the boat in the famous sewer boat scene. Sparky has also been working with noted method acting teacher and animal specialist Steven Irwin-Strasberg.
