Theatre Professor Excited to Break Students Down and Maybe Build Some of the Talented Ones Back Up

Armed with her sharp wit and her uncanny ability to make you question everything about yourself, Professor Maisie LeBon, reportedly spent Admitted Students Weekend deciding which teens were going to make it through her program with a shred of self esteem.

“I like to start by sitting down and telling students their types and pointing out who isn’t going to work until they are in their forties. Then, I give them a scene where they have to cry on command and watch them fail” explained LeBon to the group of parents who accompanied their children on the weekend.

While LeBon’s tactics are controversial, they are not uncommon. Most theatre programs do employ tactics to humble students. While some find it demoralizing, other actors say they owe all their success to teachers like LeBon. "Honestly, standing in a freezing cold line at 4am feels downright cushy compared to an acting class with Masie” said one former student. “If I need to cry I on cue, I just think of that time Masie told me that my face isn’t symmetrical” added another.

LeBon, for her part, is not backing down, stating only, “Well goodness, if I don’t point out to them that they are phonies, the Ben Brantley certainly will!”
