OP ED: I Support All Women, Except Other Women Who Are My Type

In the wake of the #metoo movement, there has been a lot of talk about ways that we women can band together to fight against oppression. Nowhere is that mentality more important than in the entertainment industry, which is rife with opportunity for abuse.

Women of the entertainment world, it is time to stand up as one and say, “Yes! I support all women! With the glaring exception, those who could play the same roles as me in tv, film or theater.”

Ladies, now is not the time to get catty. To let our differences divide us. As we call for the necessary changes in our industry and in our world, we must take the hands of the sisters fighting beside us. Unless, of course, you and that particular sister are constantly getting called in for the same roles and one time she made a weird comment about your lipstick color in the holding room just to throw you off, that bitch.

The #metoo movement has shown that there is power in numbers. If you’re anything like me, somewhere deep inside you have always known this to be true. Except when the “numbers” are hordes of other cute 20-something white mezzo-sopranos who would describe themselves as “strong movers.”

At its most basic level, feminism is predicated on the idea that in order for any of us to rise, we all must rise together. When you see injustice, speak out. Likewise, when you see other women succeeding, cheer their success. Unless that woman is fucking Katie Ann Sellers, she got cast over me as the Baker’s Wife in final callbacks and I will never forgive her until the day I die.
