How to Stay Classy in Your Summer (Stock) Lovin'

We all know that Summer Stock is All About Stretching Yourself Professionally, and Honing Your Craft in Front of a Crowd of Excited Dinner Theater Patrons.

But it’s also about S.E.X.

If you are lucky enough to find someone special beneath the stage lights, here a few tips to handling your non-equity romance.

  1. Keep things casual by flirting with EVERYONE. Ensure that people know that you are serious about your acting, NOT your hook up buddy.

  2. Share Everything. Every morning let the cast know what base you got to. Be sure to update your director and producers as well. Snapchat is also a good way keep people in the know.

  3. Send Secret Messages With Your Choice Of Cabaret Songs: “Sooner or Later” when you’re just starting to flirt, “Toucha-Toucha-Touch me” while things are hot and heavy and “There Are Worse Things I Could Do” during your pregnancy scare. Pro tip: don’t be afraid to bring someone up on stage while you sing.

  4. Date Within Your Cast:If there are multiple shows going on, make sure you date the person you play opposite. People expect it, and no one wants to see Frenchie with Rum Tum Tugger.

  5. Don’t Be Afraid to Be Vulnerable: Being able to cry about a new relationship makes you a VERY interesting person, so bring on the baggage. Directors and actors alike will appreciate your emotional maturity.

  6. Lastly, Remember that an Actor Must Have Experiences: You can’t act what you don't know. If you need to add hooking up with Mary Poppins before dumping her for Bert to your cannon of experiences, go for it.
