The Best Four Bar Audition Cuts

Unlike the two bar cut (designed for singers to showcase their highest note) and the luxurious eight bar cut (which is an opportunity to create a performance with an arc) the four bar cut is a chance to show that you can act AND sing at the same time.

Imagine yourself entering the room with some of Hackstage’s favorites:

“OHOOOOHHOOOHOOOH”- Defying Gravity from Wicked

This shows you can belt AND feel things at the same time. Show casting directors that you are in it to win it, by standing on a chair and wearing green make up.

“And A Liar, and Pathetic, and Alone in Life and Mean!” -MEAN by Taylor Swift

So much potential to create a backstory here. Leave them with questions: is she talking about an ex-boyfriend? A critic? Does she have daddy issues?

“Look Down, Look Down, Don't look ‘em in the eye” -Prologue from Les Miserables

Did someone say triple threat?? Show them what a great actor-singer-mover you are by miming the iconic rock-breaking of the chain gang in this scene!

“Cunnilingus, Pederasty, Father, why do these words sound so nasty?”-Sodomy From Hair

Your “edgy” side will be on display with this cut! Bonus points for looking directly into the eyes of someone behind the table while you sing this!

“BABY, BABY WHEN YOU TOUCH ME LIKE THIS” - It’s All Coming Back to Me Now by Celine Dion

Four bar cuts from any Celine Dion Song are ALWAYS WINNERS, especially if you begin with a key change.

"Dun Duh Duh Duh Dun Dun Duh Duh Duh" -The first four bars of the Games of Thrones theme song

It's always good to have a contemporary piece. Try humming the beginning of this song to show you can handle a musically demanding show and are willing to do nudity.
