Lincoln Correctional Facility to Offer Apprentice Program to Theater Majors!
Lincoln Correctional Facility is now accepting applications for its brand new Summer Apprenticeship Program. “We are looking for hungry young actors who are looking to hone their craft over the summer and have a once in lifetime opportunity,” said intern coordinator and Lincoln Correctional Warden, Betsey Ware.
“We are also looking for actors who could definitely pay the 30,000 dollars to do to program. We don't offer EMC points, but that includes room, and board, and classes. Its an extra $400.00 to use the gym and track field. Since it’s our first year, we’re for sure not offering scholarships. Also the application fee is $75.00, and a pack of cigarettes.”
Due to state-imposed regulations, interns will not be permitted to perform in any capacity, but Ware assures applicants that she will make every effort to place them on work details that are as close to theater-related as possible. For example. they might be assigned to bathroom cleaning, similar to the orphans in Annie or even breaking rocks like everyone’s favorite prisoner, Jean Valjean himself!
Ware revealed that she got the idea when she was helping her niece apply for summer acting internships. “I am seeing a trend where theaters seem to treat apprentices like prisoners. I figure, why not give these actors an actual chance to be wards of the state. Also my niece Audrey is always complaining about how she has no “emotional well” to draw from. I guess she is failing her Stanislavski-based acting class. I figure we just put her in with the inmates .That will definitely teach her a thing or two. Maybe we will even get Shakespeare behind bars to come in and teach a class.”
