#IGotCast...and Now I'm Homeless!

A BUS STATION, NEW JERSEY After going to tens of open calls Leenith Lewis finally booked her a dream role in a Children’s Touring Production of Titus Andronicus. “At first I wasn’t sure about the idea of touring New Jersey, since the company wasn’t providing a van, but then they mentioned the possibility of a fifty dollar stipend and I knew that I had to do it. So far the company has asked that I bring my own blood packets, and a sleeping bag, in case we get stuck somewhere that doesn’t have public transportation. It’s going to be quite the ADVENTURE!” says Lewis.
Lewis will be playing the role of Lavinia, who has her hands and tongue cut out early into the play. “It was a very easy-going audition process. They weren’t interested in my monologue since the character doesn’t speak much. The artistic team just seemed really excited that I was willing to come to Jersey for the audition. They kept asking if I was wanted to sign the contract right then and there.” The tour life hasn’t been easy, though. Spending so much time and money on NJ transit recently cost Lewis both her job as a barista and her apartment in Bed-Stuy, but she hasn’t looked back. States Lewis, “I didn’t get into acting to have a roof over my head, or food. And hey, I am getting PAID to act Shakespeare.*"
